Speaker 1: Events happen all year round and there are many different types of events but do you know what a special event is and why they need security? Hi, I'm Holly of Region Security Guardian's YouTube channel and in today's video we'll be talking all about what special event security is and the different types of security which are used on special events. So a special event is basically an event that doesn't happen very often. This could be a smaller event like a launch party or a celebration or it could be a large public event that only happens every few years such as the Olympics or the World Cup. Special event security are the different types of security measures which are used to protect the event so that everything runs smoothly. What is special event security? There are many different types of security in place at special events. These could be security guards, security dogs, security cameras, security alarms and security metal detectors. Security guards will be used to help control crowds at the event and to check that no unauthorised people such as criminals are trying to enter the event. While security cameras will be used to monitor and review blind spots around the event that guards might not be able to patrol and to check that every area is secure. Security dogs will be used with guards to help them patrol around different areas of the event and security dogs will be used to make sure that no restricted items such as drugs try to enter the event. Security alarms will be used as an additional layer of protection and to warn people of any security incidents happen. While security metal detectors will be used at the front of the event when people are trying to enter to make sure that nobody brings in any harmful or restricted items such as knives. What are the safety concerns of special events? Event organisers will have many safety concerns when they are planning a special event. One of the biggest concerns that event organisers will have are controlling a crowd at an event. Larger special events such as the Olympics will often have many people attending the event so it's really important that the crowd is controlled and that everyone is kept safe so that no incidents or accidents happen. One of the best ways that event organisers will control the crowd at events is by hiring security guards. Security guards will be used to control the crowd and to make sure that no guests are acting inappropriately and that the crowd isn't getting too rowdy. Another reason why crowd control is extremely important within special events is because there are some areas within a special event that may be VIP only or restricted to the guests so it's important to make sure that nobody tries to enter these areas. Security guards will be placed and will check people's tickets to make sure nobody's trying to enter any areas they aren't allowed to. Another big safety concern for special events is alcohol. Alcohol can often make people feel a lot more confident but it can also make people act inappropriately and get rowdy and when people can't handle their drink it can cause many possible security incidents. Security guards at special events will often review it and check the crowd and make sure that nobody is acting dangerously and that no fights are happening and if they think somebody has had too much to drink or they are acting inappropriately security guards will be allowed to escort that person out. If a violent incident does happen at an event because of a drink or any other reasons security guards will have to act as a witness to this event and they will be allowed to detain the people before the police come. Keeping valuables safe within events is another big concern for not only event organisers but for everyone who is attending the event. Most special events will often have a cloak room where guests can leave their items or they may have expensive filming equipment which is used throughout the event so it's important that the items that are left in the cloak rooms and that special equipment don't fall victim to pickpocketing crimes or criminals. Security guards who work at special events will often be used to act as a visual deterrent against thieves and they will use their strong security presence to do this. A security guard's strong security presence often instantly gives the impression that the event or a building or property is well protected and this will often deter criminals away from stealing at an event. Security guards will do regular patrols of the event and they will often check crowds to make sure that no incidents of theft or any other security incidents are happening. And finally the last concerns that many event goers will have are health and safety concerns and this is a big worry for any type of event. As special events are often quite bigger than normal events and don't happen as often it's extremely important to make sure that health and safety is fully covered. Every event will need a first aid station in place and they will need to make sure they have on-site trained first aiders. In the UK all security guards now need to pass first aid training before they can gain their SA licence. So security guards who work at special events will be expected to treat anybody and help anybody who gets injured at the event until emergency services arrive. Why do special events need security? Like all events special events will require security in place to ensure that everybody who's attending the event or working at the event is kept safe and secure. So every special event will often require its own customised approach to the different security that will be in place within the event. It's often the event organiser's responsibility to make sure that health and safety and any other security concerns within the event have been planned for and met and event organisers will often do this by working with a security company and by hiring security guards to help protect the event. When special events have highly trained security guards in place security guards will not only deter any criminals from entering the event but they will also provide the special event with a safer working environment. A security guard's job at an event will not only be to stop criminals but it'll also be to make sure that everybody who is attending or working at the event feel safe and secure. Some of the best ways that security guards will make sure that the event is safe and secure are by checking that all multiple access areas of the event are well protected, by checking people's tickets when they try to enter the event that only people who have valid tickets are allowed to enter, by making sure no security incidents happen at the event and through controlling the crowd throughout the event. So that's the end of our video. Which security measure do you think special events need the most? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
