Speaker 1: Welcome to Best Digital Marketing. One of the ways to improve the SEO or search engine optimization of your website is often not apparent or even considered by site owners because they are not aware of what exact searches their prospects are making. Using this valuable knowledge is key in the SEO technique that I will explain to get more prospects to your site through Google's organic listings. We'll use Google Autocomplete for some insight. What is Google Autocomplete? Autocomplete predictions reflect real searches that have been done on Google. To determine what predictions to show, Google systems look for common queries that match what someone starts to enter into the search box. They also consider the language of the query, the location a query is coming from, trending interest in the query, and your past searches. And it doesn't simply display the most common queries on a given topic, giving you a broader view of likely search phrases. You will notice the term near me and various geographic locations are added by Autocomplete to my searches. Try any search yourself and you'll often see these two geographical additions to Autocomplete. Normally for most business websites, there are a limited number of main navigation pages. Home, About Us, FAQs, Gallery, Contact Us, Products and Service pages, etc. depending on the type of business that you have. For most websites, there are 10 pages and under. Having these few pages neglects the geographic-oriented searchers, which represent a huge amount of searches no matter the product or service that you're offering. For example, let's say that you're a Delaware business that performs rapid prototyping services and a person searches with Rapid Prototyping Service Philadelphia. Yes, you do see some rapid prototyping services from the Philadelphia area in the organic listings, but you also see in the top three organic listing results, companies with no physical location in the Philadelphia area or near it. These three companies would not ordinarily appear for this particular search without these pages. So, how did these three companies secure the top search listings for this search? They used what we call targeted location pages to target geographic-oriented searches to boost traffic to their websites, and these three companies mentioned certainly would provide the searches for service to this region. Note the Googlebot and the summary Google SEO guide principles shown here. Google doesn't make an evaluation of the websites in its index like I did to look for building pictures and to determine if they actually have a physical location in the Philadelphia area. The Googlebot simply matched the keyword phrase used against what it found in index competing sites title tags, URLs, page headings, and page content. This information was weighed by the algorithm to determine what sites were most relevant to the search for page ranking order. If you want high rankings, it is important to know what Google needs on your pages outlined from Google itself. In other words, follow what Google wants closely. To drive their search for traffic, online directories have long known about how people actually search for millions of products and services, so they all have targeted location pages for thousands of locations per site by country, state, province, county, city, and even zip code. Google talked about the increasing localized nature of searches several years ago through its Think with Google blog shown here, which is a great source of general information about Google, search patterns, trends, and more. Another angle where targeted location pages provide an edge is in the business-to-business realm, where buyers and headquarters of companies search using a product or service plus a location to help service the needs of their satellite locations throughout the world. Without targeted pages, your company may not appear for any of these types of location searches. First, here is a comparison of the pages found on two label companies' websites that will provide a good visual of the targeted location page concept. They have about the same number of main pages, shown in black. The company on the left has no targeted location pages and little keyword SEO on all of their URLs. Looking at the URLs of the site on the right shows targeted location pages in blue, targeting the 50 states with far more specific keyword content to help the Google bot. The bottom line is that this site has far more foot soldiers, pages that exponentially increase its chances of being ranked on Google's page 1 for many more searches. So why don't you use this knowledge on your own site to get many more foot soldiers working in the Google index for your company? Your company can definitely compete with and win in the search result rankings game against these online directories and other companies. First, determine your targeted market area using Google Maps. You can scroll down for major cities to appear and simply note those cities on a list, if you're targeting cities. These locations will be used in a particular way for each page's title tag, URL and page heading, as well as written into the page content. Now on to the base page for the targeted pages. The home page, which is a site summary, is often the base page for the targeted location pages. You can also use other products and service pages for this base page. The following updates need to occur per page for all of your targeted locations that you selected. We'll start with the page URLs, important to the Google bot as shown here. You can make them long and keyword laden, inserting the targeted location city, state or country information near the beginning of the URL, since more SEO weight is given left to right. The same goes for the title tags, probably the most important feature of a website for indexing. They should also be long and keyword laden, inserting the targeted location city, state or country information near the beginning of the tag after the main keyword phrase. Page headings should relatively mirror the title tags and URLs with the targeted page location being creatively used in the page text. Once you have all of the targeted location pages created, they need to be linked on a site map page that you can create, so the bot can find all of these new pages. Then link the site map page to some text, usually at the bottom of your home page. And that's it.
