Speaker 1: And once more welcome everybody to our regional webinar for this month, sponsored by our Long Island chapter so thank you very much Long Island for bringing Maureen to us. And just to give you a little picture of how things are going to flow Maureen we can go to the next slide. This is an hour long presentation, we see some very friendly faces on video and if you're able to keep it on that's great, great to see you have that kind of interaction with you and of course we know folks are logging in under lots of different circumstances so whatever is comfortable for you. In terms of your audio. Once the presentation starts especially make sure that you're on mute. And I'm happy to help with those kind of things too. So I'll pop folks on mute while Maureen is presenting, just so that everyone can focus on that and we get a really nice clean recording. But if you're able to put yourself on mute that's always helpful as well. And I'll be your backup. In terms of questions, comments, keep them coming in the chat. Maureen will be responding throughout and if, if we need to at the end of the presentation, and then this session is recorded. The slides will also be available through your chapter so keep that in mind as we are moving through. Maureen next slide please. Dr. Maureen Ori, CPTD is an expert in designing, developing and delivering engaging and accessible learning solutions. Her mission is simple, to help organizations develop a positive and inclusive culture of strong and resilient leaders and employees. She has over 30 years experience working with corporations and associations to help them build the capacity of resilience through custom consulting, instructional design, training and facilitation. She has a strong background in developing quality leaders who improve communication, create inclusive environments and implement solid processes to get measurable results. Over the years she has been instrumental in helping thought leaders become better than they thought they could be. I can only imagine you'll be doing the same for us, at least in brief. Maureen please take it away so we can have you with us.
Speaker 2: Awesome. Thanks so much, David. I really appreciate the opportunity to be here with all of you. And you might be interested to know that I'm actually the past president of the San Diego chapter. I don't even want to tell you what year it was because it was a long time ago. Long time member of ATD locally and nationally, and I'm excited to be here. I always love supporting local chapters and the work that they're doing, because it made a huge difference in my career. But let's get going. I have loads of content. I hope that's okay. And we're going to jump right in. So here's what I want you to think about. Imagine that you're preparing for an upcoming program. Put it in chat. How many of you have an upcoming program that you're getting ready for? Put it in chat. What's the content of that program? And now in today's virtual world, this conversation is even more important. How do we design inclusive materials? But I want you to meet your participants. Your participants, we have Steve, Marlee, Al, Helen, Frank, and Tom. And I want you to think about how would you include them? And you don't always know who's going to be in your audience. You don't always know what their needs are. And love that. Thanks for planning a chapter event. E-learning, inclusive hiring. So how are you going to include their access needs of these individuals? So we have Steve. What Steve is this? I'm getting a little casual with these folks, but who is this individual that you're seeing? You have a conference presentation, Amy. That's great. So who's this Steve or Steven? He's probably known. Put it in chat if you know these individuals. This is Marlee. And what are their access needs? So we have Steven Hawking. Thank you. What are his access needs? He's a brilliant mind. And we have Marlee Matlin. What are her access needs? Rolling thunder. Love it. Right? So we have Marlee Matlin. What are her access needs? And I like to say access needs instead of what's her disability or what's her deficit. I always try to have more of that positive focus to say, especially in learning design. How do people need to access your content? So we have Steven Hawking has physical motor coordination concerns. Right? Marlee has audio needs. And yes, Steven may have some visual needs as well. Then this is Tom. Who's this? Tom who? And what is his access need? Do you know? What's Tom this is? And what is his access need? And then this is our friend Helen. What is her need when you look at accessing content? So we have Steve, we have Marlee, we have Tom, we have Helen. And we also have Frank. And what are her access needs? Sorry, Frank. What's his access need? He might have a different personal preferred pronoun nowadays. I'm not quite sure, but he's not around anymore. So what's Frank's access need? And then we also have actually that's Frank. Did I even get these folks right? Sorry, I've got a little brain fog if you know what's going on. So we have all of these individuals. Who's Tom? We have Thomas Edison. We have Albert Einstein. We have Helen Keller. We have FDR, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. All of these brilliant minds in our world had particular access needs. Right? What's Albert Einstein? Do you know if he were diagnosed today what he would have? Thanks, Sandy. FDR was in a wheelchair. He needed lots of stimulating conversation. Yeah, he had dyslexia. He wouldn't be thought of having a learning disability. So if you have an upcoming program, you have individuals that have visual needs. They have physical, motor coordination needs. They might have some learning processing needs, audio access needs, audio and visual. And so when we look at this class that you have, you have a lot of individuals. How are you going to design your learning programs so that all of them can access it? And these individuals are just representative of all of the different needs that we encounter in the workplace or in our learning programs. So our focus today is this. We're going to look at the convergence of the learning environment and the learning environments we create in and the access needs of our participants. We're going to look at what are some new ideas, methodologies, and things are changing so fast. My significant other is always sending me. He's like, hey, check this out for individuals who are blind or who have audio differences. Technology is changing so fast. It's amazing. I don't know if we in the corporate learning and development is changing as fast as the technology is. But we want to look at what are the methodologies? How can we design learning programs, learning materials that might be helpful for our participants? I'll introduce you to a couple tools and checklists, but this is going to be a big picture overview and hopefully inspire you to create more accessible learning programs. Thank you.
