Speaker 1: One of the key ingredients is having leaders really understand and come to terms with what their personal purpose is. Essentially what I'm doing is helping them transform themselves. There was an executive who came up to me and said, I'm alive again. Thank you. I really enjoy empowering executives and organizations to overcome what I would consider to be self-imposed limitations. They create these things they can't do and they act as though those are actually real. In fact, they've made most of those up. The idea of exposing them to what their thinking is about the impact that they have and getting to see there's all kinds of possibilities for how they can be more effective leaders individually, but also for the executives in the company, how they can be more effective as in casting the positive shadow throughout the organization. In other words, the impact that they have on people that they're not fully aware of. One of the things that I've personally found and experienced working for almost 40 years now doing this is that one of the key ingredients is having leaders really understand and come to terms with what their personal purpose is. In other words, how do they make a difference? What is it that they can do? How do they create meaning in their lives? What gets them up in the morning going through a horrendous day, if you will, with a lot of crisis? What I've concluded is that purpose has got to be the driving force. I personally have done a lot of work on my purpose. Simply stated, I'm committed to being a catalyst for personal transformation to enable possibilities. The exciting news for me is I get a chance to apply that to all of my engagements because essentially what I'm doing is helping them transform themselves. So I'm not doing it, but we're creating the environment where they can do it themselves, which is much more powerful. I found that the notion of understanding what the strategy of the company is, and oftentimes it's implicit, not explicit. So getting the leader of the company to define exactly how they're going to create competitive advantage in the marketplace, make sure that's clear to the organization. So that's one dimension. Then there needs to be an infrastructure that supports the execution of that. What I mean by infrastructure is the systems, the processes, the organizational design that would be aligned with the strategy. A lot of firms do a pretty good job of changing that. But the third dimension they usually ignore, which is the culture. So the way people work together, their habits, their conditioned thoughts, the shared values that they have might need to be realigned. In fact, they normally do to create the ability for that strategy to be successful. So you might look at it as though there's two organizational components. One is the structure. So do we have the right organizational construct in order to be able to execute our new strategy? But do we have the organizational capability in terms of how people work together and how they deal with each other in order to be able to make the strategy successful? Or it could also be overcoming a large roadblock or an obstacle in the firm that they're having a hard time dealing with. The most rewarding thing for me really deals around living my purpose. And that, as I said, is transforming executives and having them reach their potential. And so the most rewarding part for me is actually seeing that happen. I did a session earlier this week. And there was an executive who came up to me and said, I want you to know that I was extremely cynical about participating with this whole process that you've started. So the two-day off-site, the retreat that we did, I thought it was going to be a waste of time. And I want you to know I am totally re-energized. I've seen that there's some things that I've not done that I should be able to do and I can. And if I'm able to really incorporate that, which I now have the passion to do, I can make a huge difference in this organization and to my people and to our customers as well. So I'm alive again. Thank you.
