Speaker 1: If you need to translate a text into multiple languages, you may wonder whether the content will be understood the same way in all languages. Capstan is a pioneer in Upstream Linguistic Quality Assurance, or LQA work, which focuses on precisely that aspect. LQA is a set of processes designed to ensure that the translations of your high-stakes content meet stringent equivalent standards. Depending on the complexity of your localization project, we propose all or some of the following steps. First, we can lead a workshop for your content developers. We help them focus on assessment or survey-specific characteristics, which they need to take into account when creating content that will be adapted. We train authors to write translatable or adaptable content. Second, we do a translatability assessment, an LQA process designed by Capstan. Translatability assessment aims to detect and correct any flaws in the content before it is sent for translation. We submit your draft source text to linguists covering different language groups. The linguists produce a draft translation as a means to identify any issues in the source. For their analysis, they refer to a set of 14 translatability categories. A senior linguist at Capstan then collates the more relevant comments from the linguists. In some cases, a translation adaptation note is proposed. In other cases, alternative source wording is suggested as a way to circumvent a problem without loss of meaning. You will receive a consolidated report which combines the feedback of three or more linguists with Capstan's expertise. This user-friendly report pinpoints the issues that need to be reviewed and resolved to optimize the text for translation. Third, we provide a crucial pre-translation resource, item-by-item translation and adaptation notes. Experienced linguists at Capstan analyze the source text and develop notes to make translators aware of the intended meaning of certain terms or to alert them of certain psychometric properties that must not be lost in translation. These guidelines also determine what adaptations are required, desirable, or ruled out based on project requirements. The translation adaptation notes are reviewed and approved by the client before they are provided to the translation teams. Based on your goals, budget, and timeline, we prepare a customized pre-translation plan for your project. With our robust trans-adaptation design, you can either continue working with your preferred translation partner or entrust us with your translation project end-to-end.
