Speaker 1: Writing scripts is a good practice for making videos, and this tutorial will show you the fastest way to caption your content with the Sync Captions option in Camtasia. With your video project open in Camtasia, navigate to your script and copy the narration text. Back in Camtasia, use the Audio Waveform as a visual guide and position the playhead at the beginning of the narration. Next, open the Captions tool and click Add Caption. A new caption clip appears on the topmost track of your timeline. Click inside the Caption Editing window and paste your script. One time-saving benefit for using a script is that the pasted text maintains the capitalization and punctuation for your narration. To begin, click the gear icon and choose Sync Captions. A screen appears with instructions on how to sync your captions. As the project plays, listen to the narration and click a word in the script to start a new caption. When ready, click Continue and the project begins to play immediately. Watch as I work through the first few sentences. Hi and welcome to this presentation on best practices when working with audio and video. Let's begin with project preparation. It might sound obvious, but making sure you have a clear plan of what you are creating is extremely important. You will want to have your end goals in mind before you begin, or you might be spending a lot of time redoing your work or making changes later. If you need to take a break, click the Pause button. It's important to keep in mind that a common best practice is to begin a new caption at the beginning of a sentence. When ready to continue, click Resume. If you make a mistake that you'd like to fix right away, click Stop. This stops the syncing process and is useful for correcting typos on the fly or adjusting the timing if you missed one of your cues. To resume, place the playhead where you left off and start the sync captions process again. This time you'll be prompted with a choice. Start at playhead, which resumes captioning from the point under the playhead. Or start at beginning, which removes all captions from the project so you can start over. I'll click Start at playhead and finish adding captions to the video. You'll want to have your end goals in mind before you begin, or you might be spending a lot of time redoing your work. There may be times when you'll need to split a longer caption across two captions. To do this, position the playhead on the caption to select it. Right-click the caption and select Split Caption from the context menu. Since the captions were synced manually, this duplicates the text into both captions and will require some edits. Click and drag to align the caption with the narration. Then delete the narration from each caption that no longer belongs. There also may come a time when you'll want to merge two separate captions into one. Position the playhead on the later caption to select it. Right-click the caption and select Merge with Previous Caption. If you make any mistakes, don't forget that you can always undo or use the hotkeys to get you back to safety.
