+1 (831) 222-8398Speaker 1: Hi, I'm Donna Sardula, and my website is linkedin-megavir.com, and with me today is Janet Vassil. Janet Vassil is a media coach and video storyteller. She was a news anchor, she was a reporter, and a producer. And she is going to enlighten us all about video and how to make the best impact. And so, Janet, for that everyday, normal user of LinkedIn who really wants to take advantage of video, what can you give them in terms of the strategy, how to get started, and how to stay engaged with this platform?
Speaker 2: What's going on with LinkedIn now is that you're recording the video and putting it on the platform, as opposed to other places where as soon as you hit the button, you are live to whoever tunes in. So, it's a little bit different animal, and it's a good thing when you're starting out, because it means you can plan, you can have a strategy, you can figure out what you want to say over time. The beautiful thing in social media today is that the average person can get their message out directly to their potential employer or their potential customer. They can have a voice that they didn't have before when we had to wait for traditional media to pay attention to us. But what's important is to do it responsibly and to do it well, and to do it consistently. If you decide to make video part of your marketing or branding strategy, you need to plan out a regular time and place where you're going to say something and plan out what you're going to say. And that's why you get into what I would call an editorial calendar. It can be loosely based, it could be on your Google calendar on your phone, it could be on a piece of paper, it could be in your paper diary, whatever works for you. I would say, okay, once a week, or once a month, or once a quarter, I'm going to do a little video and I'm going to put it on LinkedIn and here's what I'm going to talk about, because this is what's important to my audience at this time.
Speaker 1: And one of the tools that I think is really great is if you use Evernote, and just as you go about your everyday life and you hear things, oh, that would be a great video, or that would be a great video, if you don't write it down, you're going to forget. So if you use an app like Evernote, or my goodness, even if you just carry around a tablet and jot down those ideas, I think that really helps.
Speaker 2: Audio recording on your phone is good too. I keep a little kind of recorder in my car because I'm driving around and I see something and I just talk into the little recorder very quickly, because I want to keep that information. You're right, we are bombarded with so much information today that if we don't catch those ideas when they hit us, they'll certainly disappear.
Speaker 1: All right, so then what I'm hearing from you is it's really important that not only do we recognize what it is that we want to be talking about, but we really hold ourself to a strict schedule and we put it into our calendar. We have something to record our ideas, and then when we're ready, we can really fire off a great video, one with a lot of impact. And we're not doing it just once and done, but we're going to really enter into a schedule that allows us to keep creating and creating good content. You got it. Awesome. Thank you so much, Janet. Thank you.
