+1 (831) 222-8398Speaker 1: How to answer the phone at work is not rocket science, but how you do it can have a big impact positively or negatively on the person who's on the other end, particularly if it is a customer. Once you learn the art of answering the phone, you can now concentrate on other tasks. This is really key to impressing your boss, and I'm gonna show you how to do that at the end of this video. For tips on accelerating your professional career, subscribe to my channel, click on that bell so you can be notified of a new video every Wednesday. Hi, I'm Adriana Girdler, a productivity expert with over 20 years of experience in the corporate world. And believe you me, I have heard my share of bad, bad phone intros when I've called other organizations. How you answer your phone at home? Your choice, you can do what you want. But at work, you are the face of the company with anyone who calls, so it is important that you have amazing phone etiquette. And in this video, I'm gonna do just that, teach you some good phone etiquette. Ease drop for clues. Listen to other people in your organization who answer the phone. There could be some really good golden nuggets there that you yourself can pick up. Now, the key, though, is only listen to the greeting part because you don't wanna be eavesdropping on their whole conversation, that's not the point. As well as ensure you're eavesdropping on someone who actually is really good at their greeting. I would love to know if I was eavesdropping on your greeting, what would you say? Comment below. First thing first, smile. I've said this before. The energy you portray does come through to the other side. So ensure when you pick up the phone, you've got a smile on your face. Second thing I want you to think about is how you hold your phone close to your mouth. I don't know how many times I've come across where I could not hear the person on the other line. A good rule of thumb is two fingers away from the mic on the phone to your mouth because the last thing you wanna do is say, I'm sorry, I can't hear you, or they do that to you. Speak clearly in the phone. Go slowly. Do not rush it so that the other person can understand what you're saying. Another thing is do not pick up the phone if you're eating, drinking, chewing anything because I promise you, you can't swallow fast enough. I don't know how many times I'm like, oh, hello. Don't do it, not professional, not really good. And more importantly, last but not least, ensure you have a pen and paper beside you. You're gonna have some pretty important information that you may need to collect, and the last thing you wanna do is forget a number or not know where to write it because you don't have any of those tools beside your phone. Name and rank please. Now that you are prepared on how to answer the phone, what do you do when it actually rings? Well, you need a standard greeting. So when the phone rings, good morning or afternoon, it's Cornerstone Dynamics, Adriana speaking, perfect. Now your caller knows exactly who they've called and it confirms that they got the right number. And if you want, you can even be less formal and just say, Cornerstone Dynamics, Adriana speaking, which is another way to do it too. You don't have to add in, how may I help you? But you can if you want, totally your choice. Now that you know how to answer the phone at work like a pro, you now need to match the rest of your skillset with that same professionalism. I have an amazing download for you, 21 days of getting shit done at work that gives you all the professional tips and tricks you need to be successful. Check it out with the link below. Please subscribe to my channel, give it a thumbs up, and share it with all the professional people that you know. If you know someone who can actually use a little bit of phone etiquette, please write down in the comments below. Phone etiquette matters. Until the next video, see you later.
