Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us for this short video covering what resources are available to you as a student at OCCC. In this video, we will cover navigating the website homepage, helpful services you can use, and how to get help from a librarian. Let's take a look at the library's homepage and learn how to access resources and services on campus and at home. First, head to the library's website, www.occc.edu slash library. From the top navigation bar, you can access your OCCC email, MyWay map, Moodle, and your student portal. The second navigation bar is a fast way to move through our site and will travel with you through most webpages. From here, you can even start reserving a study space or access your library account. When you're ready to start an assignment, you can always use the Start Your Search box to find books, articles, videos, and additional resources. As we scroll down the page, you can find easy quick links for students, a library resource highlight, the library's hours and directions, and a list of upcoming events. The library website offers you a hub with a page of helpful linked resources. You can access it by clicking on the Student Services icon. The Student Services page is a great bookmark to add to your favorite web browser. There are quick links to get started with researching articles, getting materials, finding other resources on campus, and getting in contact with the library. Students have access to a wide variety of services. Let's take a look at what's available at the library. The OCCC library offers both laptop and hotspot checkouts, which are available to students currently enrolled. Devices become available the first day of each term. They check out for eight weeks with an option to renew for an additional eight weeks. Devices and accessories need to be returned on the first day after finals. Laptops and hotspots aren't the only devices you can check out from the library. You can also get podcasting kits with headphones and microphones, webcams to enhance your Zoom presentations, DSLR cameras, and camcorders to capture those special moments like graduation. It wouldn't be a library without books. In addition to some of your classroom textbooks, you can check out comics, cookbooks, and more from the OCCC library. Our main collection is on the second floor of the library. Items can go out for two weeks at a time. And something special we offer is access to the Libby app from Overdrive, which you may have seen at your local public library. The library also offers public computers located on the first floor and there are stations set up for virtual proctored exams. Every OCCC student also receives $20 in printing credit, which is usable on the main floor of the library. The library not only offers you things to help you with your journey at OCCC, but librarians, too. One of the most common ways librarians help students is with research or reference help. That can include figuring out which database or platform best suits your assignment for finding articles, getting your books from the collection, or through services like Interlibrary and Loan. The library can also help you get connected with other services on campus, like the Writing Center. There are several ways to get help from the library. When you're on campus, swing by the main circulation desk to be connected with the librarian on duty Monday through Friday. If you're working from home, you can use the chat feature on the library's homepage or the email librarian form on the Contact Us page. Some instructors have our contact information already linked in your Moodle course, so there's always a way to find help. Some things to remember as you head out. You can check out a laptop at the start of each term. You get $20 in printing credit at the library. You can swing by just to check out a book, and articles you need can be found at the library and on our website. Thanks for watching. Head to the library's website if you need more help.
