+1 (831) 222-8398Speaker 1: So, you want to know how to clean up and edit a podcast episode in Adobe Audition 2020 or v13 really fast? In this video, I'm going to share my minimal 5-step process. When I don't have a lot of time, or simply don't want to put in a ton of time editing, this is what I do. Step 1. Cut any segments of audio that need to be trimmed or removed. This is typically intro noise or static white noise at the end, umms, tongue or lip tics, etc. How much cutting or trimming you do here is optional. I've spent a long time turning people into better speakers, and I've also decided not to at all and left things pretty much as is. It's up to you. Click your mouse over a segment, drag the section so it's highlighted white, then press the delete key on your keyboard. Buh-bye. Step 2. Add light noise reduction using the default settings. Hopefully you're recording in as quiet of a setting as possible, but either way, this will help soften or lessen the background noise, and it improves the vocal quality quite a bit. Click effects, noise reduction, restoration, then denoise. Once the denoise box pops up, select the light noise reduction preset, then click apply. Step 3. Normalize the audio using default settings. This helps dramatically. If a single audio track has two voices recorded on it, and one is louder than the other. Click effects, amplitude and compression, then normalize. Leave the default settings, and click apply. Fourth, we're going to run two diagnostics called declicker and declipper. Click effects, diagnostics, declicker, look for the scan button, click that, and then click repair all. Same thing goes for declipper. Go to effects, diagnostics, declipper, scan, and then repair all. And fifth, play back your audio a little bit, and look at the levels. Adjust the gain up or down a few decibels until the loudest parts do not exceed minus three decibels, and balance the general talk to around minus nine to minus 12 decibels. Basically, you don't want any audio in the red where possible. Click on the plus zero blue decibel setting, and drag your mouse left or right just a small amount. In most cases, you're likely going to be dropping the level from 1.5 to three decibels. Play back that same audio segment that was peaking before, and see if it's out of that red zone now. You can optionally highlight small segments, and drop the decibel level only for those specific problem areas. There you have it. That concludes my five-step quick and dirty workflow on how to clean up a podcast episode before you upload it and click publish. Oh, and if you're curious, hi, I'm Tom Connery, and I build websites for digital marketing agencies and small businesses on the Duda platform. What's Duda? It's the secret web design platform agencies use, and most of them don't really want you to know about it. Initially built as a mobile-only solution, Duda morphed into a fully responsive website builder, added ECWid for e-commerce, and is my first choice for small business website design. Today, Duda is well-suited to convert users from Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, and any other popular DIY website platform. Learn more by watching my overview video right here. Since you're likely an Adobe Creative Cloud subscriber, be sure to watch this video on how to save money on your subscription. Thanks again. I'll see you in the next video.
