Speaker 1: Guys, you may have thought this was a paradox, but it's actually not the case. There's actually a reason why fast-paced videos can get millions of views, and slow-paced videos at the same time, like World War II documentaries, are just as popular, amassing, say, a million views as well. I know you're probably thinking, that doesn't make sense. What's the logic behind two obviously polar editing styles working great on their own respective channels? My friends, it's all about the preferences and the expectations of the audience actually watching. And today in this video, we're going to break down the different styles and the pacing of five popular YouTube channels to help you find the right style and pacing that you can test with your audience. And guys, shout out to Envato Elements for coming in this month to sponsor this video, by the way. I used a lot of their packs in this video, and they have millions of premium video assets. And guys, each time I use an Envato Elements pack in this video, I'll put a little green symbol somewhere on the screen. Look closely and tell me the correct total number of green symbols you see in this video in the comments section. All the packs used are available for download via the links in the description via our special $9 deal for Envato Elements that you can get only through us. That's a 70% discount, by the way. So in the world of YouTube, where your content variety is immense, understanding how to tailor your videos to meet the diverse preferences of your audience can significantly impact the success of your content actually hitting. Whether your goal is to entertain, educate, or inform, the editing style that you choose plays a pivotal role in how your content is perceived and received. First, let's talk about understanding your audience. Recognizing who your viewers are and what they prefer is the first step towards creating impactful content. Viewer preferences vary widely based on factors like age, interests, and viewing habits. By actually aligning your editing style with these preferences, you can increase viewer retention and satisfaction, therefore making your content more appealing to your target audience. I mean, is your audience full of entertainment seekers? Then dynamic and engaging content is key. Consider Mr. Beast, known for his extravagant challenges and philanthropic giveaways. His editing techniques are actually pretty crucial for maintaining viewer engagement. Rapid cuts and retention editing keep his content energetic, while strategic graphic overlays and pop-up texts add humor and clarify challenge rules without disrupting the narrative flow. Timed musical cues and sound effects enhance the dramatic impact, making each video a thrilling experience from start to finish. We definitely have a section of our audience on this channel that are entertainment seekers, and even though we're a tutorial-based channel, we have our way of catering to them through our videos. I'm talking about content that we make here on the channel that you could easily watch on your phone as opposed to in front of a desktop with Premiere Pro open on the second screen. Our many VFX reaction videos or my videos where I talk about how AI will make cinema cameras and microphones obsolete are good examples of this. The editing in these go crazy. Now, educational content consumers, on the other hand, value clarity and structure. Crash Course, a channel dedicated to educational videos, excels in breaking down complex subjects through manageable lessons. Through direct delivery, supportive graphics, and structured segments, Crash Course uses clear annotations and smooth graphic integrations to help viewers understand and retain information. This methodical approach is tailored to those who prefer educational depth and well-paced presentation. All of you guys that watch our yearly Learn Premiere Pro series are looking for this same type of content. You're not looking to be entertained, per se. You're looking to be given clear instructions that are slow enough and clear enough to be able to follow along and retain. If I sped up the edit or went fast to try to make things feel more engaging, I'd get a lot of people complaining in the comments, for sure. And rightfully so. Our next type of viewers are viewers that seek in-depth analysis, such as those that frequent the Vox YouTube channel. For channels like this, expect comprehensive and contextual content. Vox uses detailed visuals, such as charts and layered video clips, to provide deeper insights into complex topics. Data visualization with animations highlight important data points, while call-outs and spotlight effects draw attention to crucial elements, enriching the viewer's understanding of the analysis. Side note, another channel that really does this well is Johnny Harris. He actually used to work for Vox, and I basically watch him instead of the news a lot of the time. Now, for those of you guys that turn to YouTube for relaxation and comfort, a gentle and soothing presentation is essential. Bob Ross' series, The Joy of Painting, is a perfect example of this style. The show features slow transitions, soft background music, and steady camera work, all of which contribute to a tranquil viewing experience. These techniques create a calming atmosphere, ideal for viewers looking to unwind. And guys, moving on to our next group, I'm going to call them quick information gatherers, such as viewers of the 5-Minute Crafts YouTube channel. They need concise and straightforward content. Listicle videos, like Top 10 After Effects Packs of 2024, that you can actually see on our channel, they absolutely rule in this space. Going back to the example of the 5-Minute Crafts YouTube channel, this type of channel employs fast-paced editing, bullet points, and visual process indicators to deliver tips efficiently. Jump cuts in their videos eliminate unnecessary footage, while text overlays quickly convey key information. Matching the rapid pace required by viewers, seeking quick and easy solutions. But guys, none of this actually matters unless you actually know how to edit engaging A-roll footage, which I'm going to show you in this video right here.
