Speaker 1: Hi, this is Agustin de la Mora offering you today three easy hacks to improve your performance as interpreters in any field. Hack number one, record yourself. I know it sounds easy but a lot of us kind of forget that only recording ourselves can we give ourselves feedback. Remember, when you ask other people to judge your performance you're risking a little bit of insincerity. Either they'll tell you did great even if they think maybe not or they say you did it wrong but they're unable to tell you what was wrong. The only way to improve your performance is to be sure to know what is it that you said, how you said it, and how to improve it. So start recording yourselves today. Hack number two, how to improve comprehension. One of the biggest problems when people are evaluated in their performance as interpreters is incomplete comprehension and we know that the biggest enemy to comprehension is trying to interpret what you're still acquiring a message in the source language. So here's an easy hack, you want to understand the message better, pay attention to the message in the source language. Don't attempt the target language until you're ready to interpret. Hack number three, we don't have that word in my language. I hear this all the time and that's because many of us believe that there is a one-to-one equivalence between this word in one language and this word in another language. But remember, we're interpreters, we don't interpret words, we interpret meaning. So don't get hypnotized by the word. If you need to say something in another language, interpret the meaning. Remember, legal equivalent is what we're looking for. So hack number three, interpret meaning, not words. So thank you very much for listening to me and I wanted to invite you all to come join us on April 1st, and this is not an April Fool's joke, join us on our signature training for court interpreters starting April 1st, coming right up, for languages other than Spanish. This is your opportunity to learn more about what we do and how we do it and how to do it correctly. So click on the link below and we hope to see you soon. Thank you very much, this is Augustin saying bye-bye.
